GIF is far less efficient than modern video. Phase 3 limits clips to 15 seconds, width to 720 pixels, and frame rate to 20 fps to prevent accidental runaway output.
FFmpeg creates a dedicated color palette and applies it with Bayer dithering. This generally looks better than a naive direct GIF conversion at the same dimensions.
GIF stores animation inefficiently compared with MP4 or WebM. Shorter duration, smaller width, and lower frame rate reduce size.
Balanced is a practical default. Small favors compact output; High Quality uses more frames and colors.
The configurable Phase 3 limit is 15 seconds.
